The Appraisers Association of America offers year-round seminars, workshops and connoisseurship study days on a wide range of topics of importance to the field of personal property appraising. These programs are intended to enhance an existing component of an appraiser's toolkit, or to bring something new to it. Programs are open to Appraisers Association members and the general public and may be of particular interest to collectors, auction specialists, dealers, insurance professionals, attorneys, conservators, and others.
The Appraisers Association of America is committed to ongoing education for appraisers and each season organizes a six-part slide lecture series in New York City, given by specialists in the fine and decorative arts and focusing on specific areas in depth. Within the context of the talk the expert provides historical background, an overview of the field, establishes current values and trends, addresses problems of copies and forgeries and often considers a variety of issues including conservation, as well as insuring the appraised property. During each lecture members of the audience receive bibliographies and current reference material prepared by the speaker. Following the lecture there is a reception providing networking and social opportunities for members of the audience of appraisers, dealers, collectors, and curators.
The Appraisers Association of America offers courses for candidates, members and other interested participants. These courses, taught online or in-person, provide resources and education for appraisers in every step of their career.
