PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (PDP)

In 2002, the Appraisers Association of America began offering appraisal students an opportunity to participate in a Professional Development Program (PDP). This program is designed to allow candidates and others interested in the field to work with established appraisers in developing their skills in dealing with and arriving at correct values and in perfecting their skills in producing properly written appraisal reports which meet current legal and professional requirements.

Eligibility
Anyone with a professional interest in appraising is eligible to participate in the program. Trainees are matched with appropriate mentors selected from the AAA Board of Directors and AAA membership. Preference will be given to those potential trainees who have completed the USPAP 15-hour course and examination and/or to those who have completed the NYU Certificate in Appraisal Studies. However, it is acceptable to apply at any time during the period that applicants are completing these requirements to allow time to place trainees with appropriate mentors.

Duration of the Program
The Professional Development Program will be available on a rolling admissions basis for four-month sessions beginning on the first of any desired month.

Application to the Program
All those wishing to participate should submit a letter or form including their contact information, desired areas of specialization and a brief resume and transcript (if applicable) of NYU Appraisal Studies courses or other related education to the AAA Professional Development Program. Program Registration and Cost
Once an application has been received, applicants will be matched with mentors in their areas of interest subject to availability and location. Once a mentor and applicant have agreed to work together and upon the AAA's receipt of the $400 program fee, the applicant will be registered by the AAA as a participant for the four-month.

PDP and Candidate Status in the AAA
This program evolved based on the need for students to have opportunities to gain experience writing appraisals in their specific market of interest with access to a mentor who can provide market insights on how to arrive at current and accurate values. Applicants are encouraged to work on appraisal reports which will serve as their required appraisals for the AAA admissions process.

Please feel free to contact AAA with any questions or comments regarding the Professional Development Program. 212.889.5404 x11
